A numerical study of the wedge - water - entry problem : xed points of separable and mixed - monotonepositive

چکیده
The wedge-entry problem can be formulated as an integral equation , involving a parameter , small corresponding to wedges of semi-vertex angle just less than =2. An existence proof for the wedge-entry problem is given in LP]. Numerics using a similar integral equation were rst published in Dob], and recently checked and extended to smaller in ZF]. This report contains the following. I Numerical coding and aspects of the existence work are brought closer together. IIa Previously published numerical results are checked (and so far no serious error has been found). IIb The computations are developed as`small-machine' ones, using Matlab, in order to facilitate exploration of subproblems, of different iterations, etc.. IIc The numerical solutions are checked against various bounds given in LP]. III Various items related to unsolved problems concerning thin wedges are collected together. The separable and mixed-monotone operator structure within the problem is exposed. This was motivated by points I, IIb on the list above-and the (long term, not presently realised) hope for a constructive existence proof. This report, related work, and associated numerical (Matlab, etc.) codes are all to be available from links described at

The Effect of Asymmetric Water Entry on the Hydrodynamic Impact
The effect of the asymmetric water entry over a submerged part of a ship on the hydrodynamic impact is investigated numerically. A wedge body is considered to study and the problem is assumed to be two-dimensional. The Results of symmetric and asymmetric impacts are compared together. The effect is found significant in the numerical simulation. The maximum hydrodynamic pressure at a heel angle ...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of water entry of tunnel cross section with different deadrise angles and tunnel radiuses
This study deals with the numerical modeling of symmetrical water entry of tunneled sections. In this study, firstly, the water entry problem of a wedge section without tunnel in four different deadrise angles was numerically modeled. The obtained results related to the pressure distribution on these sections and the maximum pressure have been compared with the experiment results. In the next s...
متن کاملNumerical Evaluation of Cushioning Pressure in Water Entry of Rigid Bodies
Effect of air cushion layer right before impact of a rigid body onto water surface has been investigated in this paper. The study is mainly focused on evaluation of cushioning pressure and the resulting free surface elevation. The air flow is assumed to be an irrotational flow which is governed by Laplace equation. The air problem and the resulting response of the water free surface are suppose...

Analysis of wedge water entry as a basic problem has wide application. Model testing is a powerful means to deal with the said problem. In this study, a set of water entry tests on wedges of 20, 30 and 40 degrees deadrise angles has been conducted and the pressure distributions are recorded. Free falling method in symmetry conditions are considered in this research. A parametric study on pressu...
متن کاملNumerical Solution of the Symmetric Water Impact of a Wedge Considering Dynamic Equations of Motion
In this research, numerical simulation of a symmetric impact of a 2-D wedge, considering dynamic equations in two-phase flow is taken into account. The two-phase flow around the wedge is solved based on finite volume method and volume of fluid (VOF) scheme. The dynamic mesh model is used to simulate dynamic motion of the wedge, thereby the effects of different dynamic meshes in both structured ...
